Ovechkin Uses Malkin For All Star Breakaway Challenge
Total Pro Sports – You can count on Alexander Ovechkin to do something out of this world in a hockey game but in the NHL All Star Breakaway Challenge the skies the limit for him.
Last year was the first year of the All Star Breakaway Challenge something similar to the NBA Jam competition were players can let loose and show the world their ridiculous skill and creativity. Alex Ovechkin was last to shoot this year and boy he did not let us down.
On his last shot he used Pittsburgh Penguins Evgeni Malkin’s (His new best friend) assistance. Malkin provided him with a bag full of goodies including a Mountie hat that had a Canadian flag attached to it, some sort of Gino-style white sunglasses (These white framed European style sunglasses seem to be a big hit in Montreal) a splash of Gatorade (I wonder how much they paid to have them use that as a prop?) and as he skated away a wipe of the sunglasses just to make sure he could see okay. Ovechkin skated away with 2 sticks one being Malkin’s down the ice stick-handling the puck back and forth before throwing his away and using Malkin’s to shoot and score.
A classy Alexander Ovechkin then tossed his props used in the Breakaway Challenge to the fans around the rink. We missed this last part but reports surfaced that TV cameras caught Ovie on the bench using a phone and most likely text messaging a vote for himself.
“Ovechkin said he voted for Steven Stamkos.” said E.J. Hradek from ESPN.com
Alex Ovechkin won the NHL All Star Breakaway Challenge by a landslide receiving 42.8% of the fan vote.
