Enough is Enough: Basketball Team Wins 100-0

Girls Basketball Team Wins 100-0Total Pro Sports – So when is a lead safe enough in basketball for a coach to tell his players to ease off the gas pedal, 25…50…how about 100. This is not a misprint, a woman’s high school basketball team in Texas routed their opposition 100-0. The coach of the team refused to apologize for the victory claiming his players played with “honor and integrity”.

Covenant High, a private Christian School routed Dallas Academy in a manner that the headmaster referred to as “embarrassing and shameful”. He also mentioned that this performance was “not Christlike” and not an “honorable way to approach competition”.

The head coach of the team disagreed with the apology set forth by the school saying,

“In response to the statement posted on The Covenant School website, I do not agree with the apology or the notion that the Covenant School girls basketball team should feel embarrassed or ashamed” and “We played the game as it was meant to be played. My values and my beliefs would not allow me to run up the score on any opponent, and it will not allow me to apologize for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity.”

Covenant held a 59-0 halftime lead against a school that has 8 girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school, the school is designed for students with special needs such as short attention spans and dyslexia. In the rule book there is nothing saying a team cannot run-up the score, continue to play pressure defense and rain down 3-pointers, however, there is an unwritten rule that says humiliating an opponent is not tolerated.

Although the scoreboard showed a 100-0 scoreline, we all know who the LOSERS in this contest were. A side note, the coach of the team was fired after this game.
