The Calgary Flames Make Noise On Deadline Day

Ollie Jokinen Calgary Flames Total Pro Sports-  It appears that the Calgary Flames have made the biggest moves during this years NHL trade deadline.  The Flames landed two very good players and gave up very little in return.  They are now in a great position to make a run for the Stanley Cup.  Let’s take a look at the details of the trades:

The Trade: Ollie Jokinen (Phoenix Coyotes) for Mathew Lombardi, Bradon Prust and a first round draft pick.

The Reaction: Really good trade for both teams.  I like what Ollie can bring to Flames playing alongside Jerome Iginla and Mike Camilleri on the top line.  A big center like Jokinen is hard to find these days and he will have a big impact on this team.  Phoenix also receives a nice package in return.  I really like the way Lombardi plays and a first round pick is always big. The Coyotes have been the busiest team by far on deadline day and it seems that they now have a plethora of young talent.

The Trade: Jordan Leopold (Colorado Avalanche) for Lawerence Nycholat, Ryan Wilson and a second round draft pick

The Reaction: Another big need for the Flames was addressed with the return of Jordan Leopold.  He can move the puck and that is exactly what the Flames needed to bolster an their defensive core.  They really did’nt give up much to get him and they will be a better team because of this deal.  I think that the Flames will be a force to be reckoned with come playoff time, thanks to the moves they made today.
