Islanders Hurricanes HockeyTotal Pro Sports – The New York Islanders traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina and recieved one of the biggest beatings in NHL history courtesy of the Carolina Hurricanes.  This is not an error the game finished similar to a baseball game score, the Islanders lost the game 9-0.

The player of the game was none other then Carolina Hurricanes captain Eric Staal, leading the team with 3 goals and 1 assist for 4 total points.  Thus, making him The Stat Line Of The Night” for Tuesday April 7th, 2009.

Eric Staal had three goals and an assist, and finished with a club-record fourth hat trick of the season. Cam Ward made 12 saves in setting the team’s single-season mark with victory No. 39, and he matched another club mark with his sixth shutout while helping Carolina extend its franchise-record home-ice winning streak to 12.

“We’re playing the right way. We’re playing at a high, competitive level, and we’re playing like a well-oiled machine,” Staal said. “When you’re confident and when you’re doing the right things, you’re going to get good results and nights like tonight.”

The Hurricanes look to stay hot for the Stanley Cup Playoffs that start in a weeks time.
