The Stat Line Of The Night – 05/06/09 – Johan Santana
Total Pro Sports – Carlos Delgado scored from 1st on a Pedro Feliz error in the 7th inning and that was all Johan Santana needed to get his Mets the win last night against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 1-0 win against the top team in their division brought the Mets back to .50 for the season.
Hitting was scarce on this night for both teams, but it was Santana’s performance that was brightest as he pitched 7 scoreless innings with 10 Ks and only 2 hits against. His counterpart, Chad Ho Park, was good, but he was better making him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Wednesday, May 6, 2009.
Santana’s record on the season now goes to 4-1 with a 0.91 ERA. Teammate David Wright had this to say about his teams ace after the game:
“With Johan, one run gives you a real good shot at winning. He’s been just dominant. You run out of good things to say.”(MLB.com)
In a series between what many expected to be the top two teams in the National League at the beginning of the season, the Mets are looking to establish something and make a move after their slow start. With three wins in a row now, teams should start to take notice of this rising contender in the competitive NL East.
