Chauncey Billups Inbounds Off Kobe’s Back and Scores
Total Pro Sports – Last night in Los Angeles, it was the Denver Nuggets making the big plays, and if there was any indication of that, it would be the the play made by Chauncey Billups with only seconds remaining in the second half.
Given the ball on an inbound pass along the Lakers’ baseline, Billups saw a unaware Kobe Bryant’s back and used it to pass the ball to himself. He would take it off Kobe and go to the rim for the layup with only 0.6 seconds left on the clock. The bucket would cap a 14-2 run for Denver going into the half, leaving them down by just one.The Nuggets continued to keep the game close and late in the fourth quarter found themselves up. They would need forced turnovers on Bryant and Trevor Ariza, and a Derek Fisher air ball at the buzzer to seal the 106-103 victory.
After getting the split in Los Angeles, Denver will go home satisfied, but many will continue to point at game one as another that they should not have given up. The thought that they could possibly have been up 2-0 is tough to swallow, especially against Kobe and his team, who you know will be hungry for games 3 and 4 in Denver. But the Nuggets must also be glad that they did not blow another one to go down 0-2. There is likely no coming back from that.
Here is the Billups play.
And here are the game highlights.
