The Stat Line Of The Night – 06/17/09 – Scott Richmond

scott-richmondTotal Pro Sports – The Jays took a while to pick up their first interleague win of the season, but they wouldn’t make it a long wait for their second.  Following an 8-3 extra innings victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, Scott Richmond took the mound in an attempt to help his team string together back-to-back wins, and that is exactly what they did.

The Jays’ bats were on, recording 12 hits and three home runs, but it was the pitching of Richmond that sealed the deal.  The Canadian born right hander went eight strong innings, allowing five hits but only giving up one run while striking out 11 in the process.  His performance would lead the Jays to a 7-1 victory over the defending World Series champions and earn himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Wednesday June 17th, 2009.

The Jays will close out their three game series against the Phillies tonight in hopes of getting the sweep.  That would ease the pain of being swept by the Marlins at home in their previous series and would also help them keep pace with the Yankees and Red Sox in the AL East.  If they are to stand any chance of making a final run for a playoff spot in September, they will need to stay as close as possible through these early months.  Something that is much easier said than done.
