Glover Wins The US Open
Total Pro Sports – It took him one extra day, but in the end, the Glover fit. Lucas Glover that is. The 29 year old Greenville, South Carolina native who finished at -4, two shots ahead of Ricky Barnes, Phil Mickelson and David Duval, began the day at -7, but was able to hold off the big names around him to capture the coveted US Open trophy.
Mickelson was right there with him for a moment down the final stretch but could not complete the comeback, and as a result, set the US Open record with his fifth runner-up finish. Tiger Woods was also in the mix, but eventually finished at even par.
The tournament had several weather problems in the beginning, but in the end, the main story was how Glover was able to hold off players like Duval, Mickelson and Woods to create a story of his own. Mickelson was the fan favorite, coming back to play not long after word that his wife is fighting breast cancer. Duval also had an interesting tale of his own, rejuvenating a career that seemed all but finished. And then there is Tiger, who returned from surgery and almost reasserted his dominance on the big stage. But in the end, it was the relative unknown who would enter his name into the record books, leaving the big names to wait till next time to make the headlines.
