The Stat Line Of The Night – 06/21/09 – Albert Pujos
Total Pro Sports – A popular decision among MLB teams this season has been to intentionally walk Cardinals slugger Albert Pujos. The Kansas City Royals are probably wishing they had stuck with such a trend. Not doing so was a costly mistake that would lead eventually result in their 12-5 defeat at the hands of the Cards.
Stepping to the plate five times yesterday, Pujos was able to put together four hits, two of which were home runs. His first came in the 4th inning with the bases loaded, while the second was a solo shot in the 5th. At the end of the day, Pujos went 4 for 5 with six RBIs, two home runs and a double, easily enough to earn his team the victory and himself the “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Sunday June 21st, 2009.
Pujos’ big night at the plate gives him 26 home runs and 68 RBIs, moving him to the top spot in the majors in both categories. With an average of .329, it is not unreasonable to believe that the all-star first baseman can contend for the triple crown. Should he keep himself in such a position when September rolls around, the pursuit of such an achievement will surely be the talk of baseball.
