The Stat Line Of The Night – 07/01/09 – Hank Blalock

hank-blalockTotal Pro Sports – In a crucial series against their division rivals from Los Angeles, the Texas Rangers took the final two games from the Angels, and much of their success in the series can be attributed to the play of Hank Blalock.  Hank sat out Tuesday’s game and it seemingly paid off Wednesday.

After splitting the first two games, the Rangers took the third and final game by a score of 9-7.  Things were not looking so good for them after the top of the ninth.  Going into the inning with a three run lead, Frank Francisco blew it, allowing the Angels to tie the game, but luckily for him and the rest of the Rangers, Blalock was there to save the day.  Already having one home run on the night, Hank stepped to the plate with one on and two out and took Justin Speier yard for the walk-off shot.  He finished the night 3 for 5 with two homers and three RBIs, earning himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Wednesday, July 1st, 2009.

Blalock has not been all that impressive thus far in 2009, hitting only .245 while recording 16 homers and 39 RBIs.  The Rangers now sit only 0.5 games back of the Angels for top spot in the AL West, but if they wish to keep pace they will likely need Blalock to join the hit-parade in Texas.
