The Stat Line Of The Night – 07/20/09 – Matt Holliday

matt-hollidayTotal Pro Sports – Last night’s battle between the Minnesota Twins and the Oakland Athletics provided a few rather strong statlines.  Justin Mourneau went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs, but he was outdone by the A’s Matt Holliday, whose terrific night at the plate was the deciding factor in a 14-13 victory for his club.

With Oakland trailing 13-7 in the seventh, Holliday’s grand slam helped cap a seven-run inning that would lead them all the way back and put them into the lead for good.  The A’s left fielder ended the night 4 for 5, with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, and 6 RBIs, leaving us no choice but to award such an effort with “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Monday, July 20th, 2009.

Last night’s remarkable comeback is one of the few bright spots of what has been a rather disappointing year for the Oakland A’s thus far.  Sitting in last place in the AL West, they stand a lengthy 13.5 games behind the division leading Los Angeles Angels.  Whether this victory over the Twins can be used as a turning point in the season remains to be seen.
