Pittsburgh State Safety To Miss Season Due To Zebra Bite…Seriously?
Total Pro Sports – It’s WTF time again! This one comes out of Pittsburgh, Kansas, where an athlete’s season has ended before it even started due to what may be the most bizarre injury ever sustained. It sure beats your typical broken hand from punching a door.
Joe Windscheffel, a safety at Pittsburgh State, will miss the entire 2009 campaign after being bitten on the arm by a zebra. The incident occurred when he was trying to move three female zebras and one male at a farm, as he painted a fence along the pasture line. The male, unprovoked, charges at Joe and bit him on the arm and began dragging him. Two men eventually came to help him and freed his arm, but not before the damage had been done.
Windscheffel sustained a compound fracture on his forearm, which required a plate and six pins to be inserted, and will be out for the season. It is just another case of bad luck for the 6-foot-2, 225 pound product of Smith Center High School, who was red-shirted for the 2008 season with an Achilles injury.
