The Stat Line Of The Night – 07/29/09 – Joba Chamberlain
Total Pro Sports – Playing against a division rival with the opportunity to increase their lead in the AL East, the New York Yankees sent Joba Chamberlain to the mound and got just the type of performance they were looking for. It was more than enough to assure the Yanks the victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, giving them two of three in the series and increasing their division lead to 3.5 games over the second place Red Sox.
Chamberlain pitched a solid eight innings, and although he received a bit of a scare in the ninth as he watched Brian Bruney give up two runs, he still came out with the 6-2 win, his seventh of the season. He was dominant at times, allowing only three hits to the Rays batters, while striking out five. That was enough to earn him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Wednesday, July 29th, 2009.
With each of the other four teams in the division sporting a sub .500 record in their last ten games, the Yankees have taken advantage by going 8-2. That has them looking like a strong bet to finish on top of baseball’s toughest division. With their starting rotation seemingly in top form at this point and the bats producing, the Bronx Bombers may be on track for their twenty-seventh World Championship.
