The Stat Line Of The Night – 07/30/09 – Johan Santana
Total Pro Sports – Not much has gone right for the New York Mets this season as injuries have pactically decimated the club, but thanks to a strong performance from Johan Santana yesterday theyfound themselves working on a five game winning streak that put them only two games under .500. Unfortunately, the streak would eventually be snapped during the second hald of their double header against the Colorado Rockies.
Rockies batters were happy to see Santana not on the mound for the second game after the trouble he gave them earlier in the day. Going seven solid innings, he only allowed four hits and no runs while striking out eight. That was more than enough for the Mets batters, who cashed in on seven runs of their own, helping Santana get a league high twelfth win (tied with five others), and earn “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Thursday, July 30th, 2009.
It was supposed to be a big year for the Mets, began play at their new ballpark and already had a strong lineup before added some much needed strength to their bullpen. However, injuries have hurt the club and they now sit 9.5 games out of tip spot in their division and will need to produce more winning streaks if they want to get back in the playoff hunt.
