The Stat Line Of The Night – 08/04/09 – Albert Pujols

albert-pujolsTotal Pro Sports – During the All-Star break much of the talk was surrounding Albert Pujols‘ great first half and the possibility of him capturing the triple crown.  He has since struggled at the plate and as a result his numbers have take a hit, but last night may have been the night the Cardinals first baseman needed to get himself back on the track towards history.

With his team tied after nine innings against the New York Mets, Pujols stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the tenth and capped off a great offensive night with a grand slam off Sean Green, leading the Cards to the 12-7 victory.  He would finish the game 4 for 5 with two home runs, five RBIs, and just a triple away from the cycle.  That was more than enough to earn him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Tuesday, August 4th, 2009.

Pujols continues to lead the majors with 36 home runs and 97 RBIs, but he will need to catch Hanley Ramirez for the NL lead in batting average.  Ramirez is currently batting .340 while Pujols sits at .321.  The triple crown is surely within reach, but Albert will need more games like last night’s and less like the few weeks prior.
