The Stat Line Of The Night – 08/05/09 – J.A. Happ
Total Pro Sports – Just over a week ago J.A. Happ was rumored to be the centerpiece of a deal that would see the Philadelphia Phillies acquire ace Roy Halladay from the Toronto Blue Jays. Last night he showed Phillies’ management why they made the right move hanging on to his promising young arm.
Coming off two straight losses in his last two starts, Happ was pitching yesterday in his first game since the MLB trade deadline. He silenced any critics who may have thought his success was coming to an end, and made his way back into the win column with a dominating performance against the Colorado Rockies. In the end he would pitch a complete game, allowing only four hits while striking out ten, earning himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Wednesday, August 5th, 2009.
While some may think that the Phillies would have become instant favorites if they acquired Halladay, his price tag was a hefty one. In Happ and pitching prospect Kyle Drabek, the Phils have a very bright future on the mound and maintain a team that has produced an NL East leading 60-45 record. Sometimes you just shouldn’t bother fixing something that isn’t broken.
