The Stat Line Of The Night – 08/11/09 – Ervin Santana
Total Pro Sports – The Tampa Bay Rays (61-52) were in Los Angeles to take on the red hot Angels (67-44). The Angels have been playing amazing ball of late and looked to stay atop their division. Taking the mound for the Angels was Ervin Santana and for the Rays up and comer David Price.
On paper this game should have been a close one, but it turned out to be a one sided affair for the Angels who easily won the game 9-0. “The Stat Line Of The Night” was none other then the Angels starting pitcher Ervin Santana who pitched an absolute gem.
“It was very impressive,” Santana said. “I was hitting my spots, throwing off-speed for a strike. … I just forget about [previous losses] and keep pitching, because I’m a winning pitcher, not a losing pitcher.”
It has been a rough season for the young Santana who was sporting a 4-6 record with an ERA over 6 going into tonight’s match-up. Putting everything behind him Santana took the mound and pitched his best game of the season and possibly his best game of his career. Sanata pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 6. Hopefully this can continue because Ervin Santana has definitey not lived up to all the hype coming into the Majors.
