The Stat Line Of The Night – 08/12/09 – Hunter Pence

Hunter PenceTotal Pro Sports – The Houston Astros have been banged up with injuries for the last little while, and on Wednesday night, they got a boost in the form of Lance Berkman. He had a good opening game back with two doubles, but it wasn’t Berkman’s all star credentials that would prove to be the difference tonight as Hunter Pence stole the show with two HR’s an 6 RBI’s. Pence hit a pair of three run dingers for his career high 6 RBI’s, and both big fly’s came during big innings, a five run 1st, and a seven run 4th.

Houston could be in contention if they continue to get healthy and keep hitting the way they are. Also of note, the Astros pitcher, Bud Norris became only the second Houston Astro to start his career with the team at 3-0, following behind some guy named Roger Clemens. Pretty good company.

The Astros, who went 6-12 in the absense of Berkman and will now look to rebound and make one final push for the playoff. Prior to Berkman’s DL stay, the Astros were on a 30-17 run, and were a game with in the pennant for the NL Central. For the Astros, play like this will go a long way in ensuring they’re playing baseball in September.
