The Stat Line Of The Night – 08/16/09 – Ryan Howard

Phillies Braves BaseballTotal Pro Sports – The rain yesterday in Atlanta was enough to delay the beginning of the Sunday night game between the Braves and the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.  Unfortunately for the home town fans, it was not enough to cool down Ryan Howard‘s suddenly hot bat.

Howard had two home runs in his previous three games and added two more last night against the Braves’ Javier Vazquez.  That was enough to provide his Phillies with all the runs they needed as they came away with a 4-1 victory.  Howard drove in all four runs and went 3 for 3 at the plate with a walk, earning himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Sunday, August 17th, 2009.

With the victory, the Phillies continue to lead the NL East by a somewhat comfortable 4.5 games.  The win was their fifth in the past six, and helps them maintain a gap between themselves and the Florida Marlins, who have also been red hot thus far in August.  As the final month of the season approaches, wins will be big for all teams, and if Ryan Howard continues to go yard on a consistent basis, the Phillies should have no problem racking in a bunch of them.
