The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/03/09 – Matt Asiata
Total Pro Sports – Last night the NCAA kicked a new football season and while there were several great performances (and come not so great), no one seemed to do more for their team than Utah’s Matt Asiata. The senior running back was a horse for the Utes as they looked to carry over their great 2008 campaign into 2009.
Asiata was handed the ball an amazing 36 times and he translated that into 156 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 17 yards as Utah used their running game to dictate the pace of play and wear down the Utah State defense on route to a 35-17 victory. For his part in leading the offense Asiata has earned himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Thursday, September 3rd, 2009.
The Utes also received great performances from junior quarterback Terrance Cain and senior wideout David Reed. With their offense clicking on all cylinders, they have now extended their winning streak to 15 games, which is the longest current streak in the nation. Should they continue to assert their dominance over opponents again this year, they will once again find themselves in a BCS Bowl Game. Only question is will it be the big one?
