The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/08/09 – Marlon Byrd

D047135019.JPGTotal Pro Sports – The Texas Rangers headed into Tuesday’s crucial double-header against the Cleveland Indians looking to make up some ground on the Boston Red Sox in the AL wild card race.  With the chance to get themselves within 2 games of a playoff spot they would need their bats to to be clicking throughout the entire day and night.  That was exactly what they got from center fielder Marlon Byrd.

Byrd started off strong, going 4 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs in the Rangers’ first game of the day, leading them to an 11-9 victory.  Then it was on to the nightcap, and although he was not quite as good, Byrd was still impressive, going 3 for 5 in a 10-5 win.  When the day was over, Byrd was a solid 7 for 9 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBIs.  That was enough to earn him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Tuesday, September 8th, 2009.

The AL wild card race looks to be down to a battle between two teams, and while the Red Sox have been no stranger to October baseball in the past decade, the Rangers certainly have.  They have the opportunity to change that but it will take a strong run over the final month.  If their starts, like Marlon Byrd, can continue to be their stars, their chances become that much better.
