The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/15/09 – Cliff Lee
Total Pro Sports – Defeating the Washington Nationals may not be regarded as much of an accomplishment, but when it is done in the type of fashion Cliff Lee displayed last night, one can surely show some appreciation for such a performance. With the Phillies having won two in a row and looking to maintain their comfortable lead atop the NL East, Lee delivered a gem that would help them extend that streak and keep their distance from the second place Florida Marlins.
Although Lee wasn’t exactly flawless throughout the game, allowing six hits as well as three walks, he was solid when he needed to be and prevented any Nationals’ batters from crossing home plate. His performance was more than enough for the Phillies to solidify the 5-0 victory as he recorded another complete game while striking out nine batters on the day. That was enough to once again earn him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Tuesday, September 15th, 2009.
Cliff Lee has now been awarded the TPS “Stat Line Of The Night” a league high four times on the season, tying him with Toronto Blue Jays’ ace Roy Halladay. Three of those have come with the Phillies, who he was traded to prior to the deadline. He has also seen his ERA drop to 3.00 and now finds himself at the 14 win mark. After going on a tear through July and most of August, Lee had come down to earth, but with back to back victories in his last two outings, he could be once again rounding into form just in time for the playoffs.
