The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/17/09 – Wade Davis
Total Pro Sports – It is likely a case of “too little, too late,” but the Tampa Bay Rays put on the type performance last night against the Baltimore Orioles that they could have desperately used over the past month or so when they saw themselves fall out of contention in the AL East and wild card races. That shouldn’t dampen Rays pitcher Wade Davis‘ spirit much as he recorded his first career win in style.
The 24-year-old was solid all night as he went the distance, pitching a complete nine innings allowing no runs on only four hits. He also struck out ten batters as the Rays went on to beat the Orioles by a score of 3-0. The Rays have not come across many wins in the month of September, but Davis was good enough on the night to get them this one and in doing so, earn himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Thursday, September 17th, 2009.
The Rays were expected to once again challenge for the AL East division title and the World Series one year after losing the championship to the Philadelphia Phillies. Their start to the year was not great, but they came on midway through the season and it seemed as though the 2008 Rays were back. That did not last long however, and some devastating losing streaks have now killed all hope. Davis’ performance will come as one bright spot to the year, as the Ray look for the guy to replace Scott Kazmir. Hopefully he can be that guy.
