The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/22/09 – Anibal Sanchez
Total Pro Sports -Looking to make a final playoff push in an attempt to play some meaningful baseball in October, the Florida Marlins are in desperate need of wins. Last night’s task was not an easy one to come by as they took on the NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies searching for a victory. Luckily, pitcher Anibal Sanchez was up to the challenge.
It was a dominating performance from Sanchez at home as he made life difficult for Phillies’ batters all game. In the end, they were unable to muster even a single run off the righty as he recorded his first victory in his past six starts. It was an important one, and Sanchez made the most of it, throwing eight innings of shutout ball, and allowing only two hits while striking out seven. It was enough to earn him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009.
The Marlins still face a rather difficult uphill battle as they remain 5.5 games back of Colorado for the wild card spot with the magic number sitting at 6. Between them and a playoff birth also lies the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants. They will need to be almost flawless over the final few weeks if they want any chance of winning the franchise’s third World Series.
