The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/22/09 – Carlos Guillen

Tigers Indians BaseballTotal Pro Sports – With more than 4 games separating every other playoff race in the majors, much of the spotlight as we near the end of September has been on the battle for the AL Central between the Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins.  The two teams went into last night’s game with the Twins trailing the Tigers by three games, but an 8-6 win for Minnesota meant Detroit needed to beat the White Sox to keep it that way.  Let’s just say that Carlos Guillen‘s bat is not a very big fan of change.

It was a good day at the plate for the Tigers, and Guillen was leading the way, going an impressive 3 for 4 and recording 4 RBIs.  His big night was capped off in the 5th inning after hitting his second homer of the night, a solo shot.  That made it a 9-1 game, but what was most impressive was Guillen hit it batting right handed, as opposed to his first homer, which he hit from the other side of the plate.  The final score would be 11-3 for the Tigers and along with the victory, Guillen would also earn honors as “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009.

Guillen has been rather quite this season, batting a rather dismal .246 and recording 11 home runs in 70 games, but he can erase any bad memories of this year with a strong performance down the final stretch and into the playoffs, should the Tigers find themselves there.  His performance may help determine exactly that.
