The Stat Line Of The Night – 10/13/09 – Thomas Vanek

Red Wings Sabres HockeyTotal Pro Sports – The Buffalo Sabres have got themselves off to a 3-0-1 start and much of that has to do with their balanced scoring attack, not to mention some strong goaltending from Ryan Miller.  Last night was another big test as they took on the Setroit Red Wings at home in front of their fans and they were up for it, playing the 2009 Western Conference champions tough through the first period before pulling away in the second on their way to a 6-2 victory., and leading the attack was Thomas Vanek.

Playing on a line with Drew Stafford and Derek Roy, Vanek found some opportunities to put the puck in the net during Buffalo’s four goal second period, and he did just that.  When the buzzer went to signal the end of 40 minutes, Vanek had himself two goals, and that would be enought to earn him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Tuesday, October 13th, 2009.

Unfortunately, Vanek was nowhere to be found at the end of the second period.  That was because after scoring his second goal of the game, he crashed awkwardly into the end boards and sustained what team officials are calling “an upper-body injury.”  He is expected to miss at least the next couple weeks but no further timeline has been made available.  The good news is he was able to earn himself the stat line before exiting with the injury.
