Someone is ready for the new NBA season. His name is Carmelo Anthony. Melo already has himself a nomination for “Dunk of the Year” after throwing it down over Paul Millsap in the Nuggets’ opener. He brought it up another notch as the Nuggets faced the Blazers in Portland for a Northwest Division showdown.
Anthony simply dominated the Blazers on their own court. They tried covering him with Martell Webster. Then they moved all-star Brandon Roy on Melo. It didn’t matter. He dropped 16 of his points on Roy in the last 6 minutes of the game. In total, Melo scorched the Blazers for 41 points, put the Nuggets on his back and lead them to a 97-94 win over the Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden.
Melo did it all, including sinking a pair of free throws with just 1.9 seconds left to seal the deal for Denver. He got to the line all night, and made 18 of his 19 free throw attempts. He also was 11-21 from the floor and added 6 boards, 3 assists and a steal. The Nuggs are 2-0. And Carmelo Anthony earns The Stat Line of the Night for 10/29/09.
