The Stat Line of the Night – 11/04/09 – Hideki Matsui
Hideki Matsui owned the Phillies and Pedro Martinez and his amazing game 6 production helped the Yankees become the new World Champs — the 27th championship of their storied history.
Matsui started the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd, hitting a 2-run homer after an A-Rod walk. The Phillies got one run back in the top of the 3rd to make it 2-1, but Matsui had more for Pedro and the Phils.
Matsui came to the plate in the bottom of the 3rd with 2 outs and the bases loaded. He blasted one to center for a 2-run single and the Yanks led 4-1. When Matsui came to the plate again in the 5th, he buried the Phillies’ hopes for a repeat with a 2-run double that made it 7-1 Yanks.
For the night Matsui was 3-6 with a double, a homer and 6 RBIs. For the series Matsui had 3 homers and hit .615 with an amazing OPS of 2.027. For that he was named the 2009 World Series MVP. For his incredible performance in game 6, Matsui gets The Stat Line of the Night for 11/04/09.
