The Stat Line of the Night – 11/30/09 – Drew Brees
The Saints ran their record to 11-0 last night on the back of their star QB Drew Brees. Brees has been having a stellar season and last night was no exception. In fact, according to some measures of a quarterback’s value, Drew Brees was perfect last night.
He went 18/23 for 371 yards with 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. I don’t completely understand the quarterback rating statistic, but I know it incorporates a lot of factors and is relied on heavily by teams and analysts alike. Drew Brees’s line gave him a quarterback rating of 158.3. That is the highest possible quarterback rating there is, a perfect rating if you will.
He had help from his offensive line and some great nights by his receivers, but Brees deserves most of the credit. He was accurate, was able to go downfield, and made great decisions with the football all night. The Saints defense was excellent as well, holding a high-powered Patriots offense to just 17 points and intercepting Tom Brady twice. The 11-0 Saints are looking more and more like the team to beat in the NFL, and last night’s victory against a good Patriots team raised their profile even higher. Brees’s perfect quarterback rating earns him The Statline of the Night.
