The Stat Line of the Night – 12/14/09 – Frank Gore
The red-hot Arizona Cardinals went into San Francisco last night looking to assure themselves of a spot on top of the NFC West. They also had revenge on their mind after suffering a home loss to that very same 49ers team at home back in week two. Instead, the Cardinals would end up leaving the Bay area after being dealt a sweep at the hands of San Fran, thanks in large part to the effort put forth by Frank Gore.
The Arizona defense had no answer for Gore as he put up over 100 yards in the first half alone, and finished with 167 yards on the ground and a touchdown, leading the 49ers to a big 24-9 win, and earning himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Monday December 14th, 2009.. He would also add ten yards through the air, and was a key factor in the final quarter when San Francisco was looking to run down the clock and seal the victory. The 49ers now find themselves two games back of Arizona for first in the division and they also hold the tiebreaker, having won both meetings this season.
Gore’s performance was not only big for San Francisco, but it also may have had some rather large implications for several fantasy football owners who went into last night’s game looking to make up some ground. His 23 point performance was likely enough to have several owners celebrating a fantasy miracle, and several more mourning the end of their fantasy season.
