The Stat Line of the Night – 12/20/09 – Ben Roethlisberger
The Steelers needed Ben Roethlisberger to put on a show yesterday, and that’s exactly what he did. After opening the season 6-2, the Steelers had lost 5 straight going into yesterday’s game. That all changed thanks to Big Ben’s performance. The Steelers playoff hopes had been dwindling but they are now still on life support.
Roethlisberger went 29/46 for 503 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions and a quarterback rating of 121.9. As impressive as those stats are, the most impressive thing about Ben’s night was a 19 yard touchdown pass with time expiring to beat the Packers. The Pack had come back from a 10 point deficit entering the 4th quarter to go ahead by 6 (after a 2-point conversion on their 3rd touchdown of the quarter) with about 2 minutes remaining.
That is when Ben came to the rescue, marching his team 86 yards down the field and capping it off with a game-winning touchdown. While he has fallen under some criticism this season for some poor performances and sitting a game when he may have been healthy enough to play, this win puts him and the Steelers back on the map.
Not only was his stat line ridiculous, 500 yards passing doesn’t happen often, his ability to lead his team down the field when it mattered most at the end of the game is what earns him “The Stat Line of the Night”.
