Aggies Derrick Roland Horrific Leg Injury (Video)

Derrick Roland Horrific Leg Injury

And thus ends another promising young college athlete’s career.  Just a quick warning: this picture is not for the faint of heart.  Derrick Roland‘s leg bent in all kinds of unnatural ways last night and its probably safe to say he won’t be playing college ball again.  It’s the kind of injury you expect to see in a mixed martial arts match, not a college basketball game.  What makes this even more tragic is that in his senior season, Roland was finally starting to put the pieces together and become a very good basketball player.

The injury took place early in the second half.  Roland’s Texas A&M Aggies were in a tough contest with Washington when he came down hard after jumping under the basket.  Both teams are ranked and the matchup was a good one.  Unfortunately after Roland went down the Huskies were able to pull away easily.  As you can see from the picture, his right leg is bent in the completely wrong direction.  It’s a sad end to a college career that was just starting to blossom.

Roland had been averaging 10.5 points, 3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game and was starting to become a legitimate 3-point threat before the injury.  Our prayers obviously go out to him and his family after this gruesome injury.  Hopefully its just broken and looks worse than it is.
