The Stat Line of the Night – 12/27/09 – Jonathan Stewart
The New York Giants have had an up and down season, but roller coaster ride came to an end last night at the hands of Jonathan Stewart and the Carolina Panthers. Stewart rushed 28 times for 206 yards and a touchdown. He also added 2 catches for 16 yards. Stewart wasn’t alone though. The Panther offense completely destroyed the Giants in a 41-9 blowout.
Jonathan Stewart was pretty much able to get what he wanted all day long. His 206 yards sets a new Carolina Panther franchise records for rushing yards in a game. It also was enough to give Stewart his first ever 1,000 yard rushing season. He had a lot of help from his new quarterback as well. Matt Moore, who replaced Jake Delhomme a few weeks ago, was impressive going 15/20, 171 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Panthers improve to 7-8 but they were mathematically eliminated from the game before even entering this week. They do have a lot of good things to build off of for next season though, and the young talented running back Jonathan Stewart is one of those things. Along with Moore throwing the ball, some good veteran wide receivers and an improving defense, they may be a contender in the NFC next season. Especially if Jonathan Stewart continues to put up “Stat Line of the Night” performances.
