The Stat Line of the Night – 1/7/10 – Mark Ingram
The Heisman Trophy winner carried the load for the Crimson Tide in last night’s National Chamionship game between #1 Alabama and #2 Texas. And it was only fitting that he had the biggest impact in the game.
It didn’t look good for Bama early in the game. They looked out of sorts and Nick Saban tried a heinous fake punt on 4th & forever. Texas score twice before Bama got Ingram rolling, and they led 6-0.
But Ingram brought the Tide right back, giving them the lead after his 2-yard touchdown run to start the scoring in the second quarter.
With Colt McCoy out with a shoulder injury, it looked as if Bama would run away with the title game. Bama was up 24-6, but the Longhorns got the score to 24-21 in the 4th quarter. But there was Ingram again, rattling off runs and moving the chains on a night when Bama attempted just 11 passes. Ingram scored again on a one-yard plunge and that sealed the deal for Bama.
Ingram finished the night with the 2 TDs and 116 yards on 22 carries. He scored Bama’s 1 TD to give them the lead and get back into the game, and he scored the TD that put Texas away for good. Mark Ingram has The Stat Line of the Night for 1/7/10.
