The Stat Line of the Night – 1/12/10 – Tim Duncan
The unsung hero Tim Duncan is not known for being flashy. He does all the little things and is consistently a 20 and 10 guy season after season. He has 4 rings in the last 11 years and will go down as one of the greatest power forwards to ever play the game (possibly the greatest). But as usual this season, he is going about his business below the radar. If you look closely, however, you’ll notice he is having one of his best seasons in years. Last night was no different, as he did a little bit of everything to help his Spurs beat the Lakers.
Kobe Bryant was playing hurt all game and left in the 4th quarter, but for the Spurs and Tim Duncan, it was still a big win over a big rival. In the 105-85 beat down, Duncan scored 25 points on only 19 shots, while amassing 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 4 blocks. He does everything and if the aging Spurs can stay healthy down the stretch, they have as good a shot as anyone to win the West and possibly the NBA Championship.
Although Duncan acknowledged that the win came against an injured Laker team, it shows up in the win column. His performance last night earns him “The Stat Line of the Night”.
