Nani Scores Brilliant Goal To Lead Man U Over Arsenal (Video)
Both Arsenal and Manchester United squared off Sunday in a battle that pitted two teams giving chase to Premiership leaders, Chelsea, against one another. In the end, only one team would come out on top, and unfortunately for the hometown Gunners, that team would be Man U, thanks in large part to the brilliant performance put on by Nani.
Just over 30 minutes into the game, with the score tied 0-0, Man U was pressing for the opening goal. It was looking more and more like it would take a sublime effort to get one past the Arsenal defenders and keeper, and that is just what Nani had in store.
Taking the ball along the right wing, the Portuguese international split two defenders as he flipped the ball between them both, and walked around another defender before chipping an unbelievable shot over the outstretched hand of Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia. Nani, however, would not be given credit for the goal as Almunia did in fact deflect the ball into the net. It should therefore come as little surprise that the Man U winger was left feeling somewhat cheated.
“I put the ball into the goal so it should be my goal,” Nani said. “I did everything to make it happen. I was very confident and the dribble worked very well.” [TSN.ca]
I can’t help but side with Nani on this one. After all, this own-goal was not as blatant as some of the other ones we have witnessed over the years.
Man U would go on to win the match by a score of 3-1, pulling themselves to within a single point of Chelsea for top spot in the EPL. As for Nani, his name may not appear on the score sheet, but his face will be plastered all over the highlight reels.
