Marco Scandella’s Cheap Shot Leaves Alexandre Durette’s Face Battered
Patrice Cormier has garnered tons attention from around the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League over the past month due to a couple of rather vicious checks to the head. While much of the hockey world was focused on him as he was suspended for the remainder of the QMJHL season, another member of the Canadian Junior team may have just stole that attention away from him.
Marco Scandella of the Val-d’Or Foreurs is the latest QMJHL player to be suspended after delivering a brutal hit to the head of Rimouski Oceanic forward Alenandre Durette. Much like Cormier’s hit, the only contact made here was between Scandella’s elbow and Durette’s face. The collision sent Durette’s stick flying through the air as he lay motionless on the ice.
Pictures have since surfaced showing several cuts and stitches above Durette’s upper lip. Judging solely by the photograph (which can be seen in the video clip of the incident below), Scandella’s season may have ended with this hit as a season-long suspension appears to be headed his way.
