The Stat Line of the Night – 2/16/10 – Derrick Rose

Derrick RoseIn his first All-Star game Derrick Rose was quietly impressive, but chose to defer to his senior teammates for the most part.  Now that he’s back with the Bulls battling for playoff position, he isn’t being as timid.  Last night the Bulls took on the Knicks in Chicago and Rose showed exactly what it was that made him an all-star.

Rose was so dominant in the first half that he didn’t even play in the 4th quarter.  Rose led his team to a 95-68 lead going into the 4th quarter.  In only 27 minutes, he amassed an amazing statline.  After making 9 of his first 9 shots, he finished the game 14-18 for 29 points.  He also had 6 assists and 3 rebounds to go with the points.  While his ability to get to the basket is among the elite in the league, his jumper has been questioned as somewhat shaky.  Anyone who watched last night’s game wouldn’t question it, however.  He was knocking down shots from all over the court.

This kid seems like he could be the future of the league.  Not only has he notched his 2nd “Stat Line of the Night,” but he seems poised to become one of the top players in the NBA.  In the meantime, he is leading his team to a playoff spot and puts them in as good a position as any team to snag one of the big-name free agents this summer.
