The Stat Line of the Night – 2/21/10 – Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard

When LeBron James and the Cavs come to town, it’s going to be a tough game no matter what team you are.  Now that LeBron has Antawn Jamison helping him out, things are going to be even tougher.  None of that seemed to phase Dwight Howard however.  Matched up with Shaq for most of the night, Howard led his Magic to a huge win against the Cavs.

Recently, Shaq has created a beef with Howard about who should really have the “Superman” nickname.  While Shaq may have earned it in his heyday, Howard left no question yesterday about who deserves it now.  Howard poured in 22 points and snagged 15 rebounds en route to the Magic’s 101-95 victory.  While Shaq was able to tally 20 points as well, Howard destroyed him on the glass and also had 4 blocks to Shaq’s 2.  Howard’s 20th straight double-double was impressive to say the least.

Although Orlando still sites 5 games behind the Cavs for the top seed in the East, this win was a statement game for them.  After defeating the Cavs on the road in last year’s playoffs, seeding and ultimately home court may not be as big of a factor as it usually is.  Although this was on the Magic’s home floor, they have proven they can beat the Cavs anywhere.  We’ll find out for sure in May, but for now, Dwight Howard’s performance earned him “The Stat Line of the Night”.
