The Stat Line of the Night — 4/18/10 — Dirk Nowitzki
Double teams? No problem. Triple teams? Piece of cake. Or at least that’s what Dirk Nowitzki made it look like last night when he hit nearly every shot he took, no matter what San Antonio tried to do to him. The Mavericks did not exactly coast to a victory over the rival Spurs in Game 1 of their playoff series, but Dirk himself was spotless in the 100-94 win.
The game was a see-saw affair until the very end when the Mavs pulled away, but Dirk went 12 for 14 from the field and 12 for 12 from the free throw line en route to 36 points on the night. He also added 7 rebounds, an assist and a block and only turned the ball over once. With Jason Kidd nearly getting a triple-double and Caron Butler adding 22 points, the Mavs got a needed victory against the Spurs.
Although Dallas has jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the series, they have merely held serve for the time being. San Antonio may be the 7 seed, but they are an upset-minded team with the talent to ruin Dallas’s spring. Dirk is nearly unstoppable, however, and if he continues to shoot nearly 86%, the Mavs should have no problem dispatching the Spurs. For now, Dirk takes home “The Stat Line of the Night.”
