Jason MacDonald Suffers Nasty Leg Break At UFC 113 (GIF)
Saturday night’s UFC 113 at the Bell Centre in Montreal was supposed to be a coming out party for several Canadian fighters. It turned out to be anything but that, with perhaps the biggest disappointment coming in the first fight between New Glasgow, Nova Scotia’s Jason MacDonald and American John Salter.
With MacDonald fighting as a last minute replacement for Montreal’s David Loiseau, his unexpected return to the UFC would end in the first round after his left ankle buckled under him as he dropped to guard and attempted a guillotine on his opponent. As he lay on the ground in agony, the referee was forced to stop the bout, awarding Salter with the TKO victory due to injury 2:42 into the first round.
MacDonald would suffer a broken lower leg, as well as a dislocated ankle. As for Salter, he appeared to be quite happy with his victory. Perhaps a little too happy? I think I’d have to say so, especially when you consider the manner in which he won the bout.
Winning a fight “due to injury” (which you did not cause) is like kissing your sister. I wonder if that was what the referee was trying to tell him.
