The Stat Line of the Night – 5/11/10 – Paul Pierce
With the best-of-seven series between the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers tied at 2-2, Game 5 Tuesday night was critical for both teams. The last thing LeBron James and the Cavs wanted was to be traveling to Boston for game six with their playoff lives on the line, but Paul Pierce’s performance would help assure this nightmare became a reality.
Pierce had struggled through the first four games of the series, averaging just over 11 points per game, but he was solid at both ends of the court last night, recording 21 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals, all the while holding LeBron to a measly 15 points. His strong effort would help lead the Celtics to a 120-88 victory, and earn himself honors as “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, May 11, 2010.
There have been questions surrounding the health of King James in these playoffs, and although the Cavs superstar may not be 100%, Pierce’s defensive effort is surely not making things any easier for him. It may very well have been the worst playoff performance ever for LeBron, and the resulting loss now gives the Celtics the opportunity to close the series out on their home court. They will surely want to take advantage of it on Thursday night.
