The Stat Line of the Night – 5/20/10 – Carlos Pena
The bad news for Tampa Bay Rays fans is that power-slugging first baseman Carlos Pena has been fairly awful so far in 2010. The good news is that going into last night’s game against the Yankees, the Rays were still in first place by four games over the hated Yankees. The other good news? Pena may have busted out of his slump last night and that first-place lead increased to five games.
Pena got his lumber out of slumber and jacked two huge bombs as the Rays beat the Yanks 8-6 in New York. They handed Andy Pettitte his first loss of the season, throwing him a major beating. Pettitte gave up 7 runs and 9 hits in just 5 innings.
Pena jacked homers number 7 and 8 in the win, one off Pettitte and one off Chan Ho Park. If Pena keeps this up the Rays may have the division won by July. They are the first team to 30 wins and have the best record in baseball. They also might have their best power hitter back. Carlos Pena has The Stat Line of the Night for 5/20/10.
