Is ‘Air Jordan’ Now ‘Ice Jordan’?
Throughout the 90s, Chicago was a town fixated on the Bulls and their six NBA championships. Much of that was the result of Michael “Air” Jordan, and for all the winning he brought to the Windy City, they decided to give a little something back; a statue of His Airness in his most popular pose.
It has been over a decade since those glory days in Chicago, but Championships appear to be on the horizon once again. The only difference this time is that they look to be coming from the boys on the ice, rather than the boys on the hardcourt.
With the Chicago Blackhawks set to take on the Philadelphia Flyers in the Stanley Cup finals, they have yet to resurrect a statue of Jonathan Toews in front of the United Center, so for now his jersey on the back of M.J. will simply have to do.
Should the Blackhawks’ captain bring home Lord Stanley’s grail to the people of Chi-town, it may not be long before they are making room for a Toews statue right next to His Airness.
