The Stat Line of the Night – 6/23/10 – Cliff Lee

cliff leeThe Seattle Mariners welcomed the Cubs into Safeco Field for Wednesday night’s game. It’s the Cubs — which team wouldn’t want to see them in the visiting clubhouse? Cliff Lee was taking the bump amidst more trade rumors. Seriously — why do we keep hearing about teams wanting to trade this guy? Lee demonstrated yet again last night why I hope my favorite team makes a run for him.

Lee went the distance and allowed only one run, a solo homer from Cubs rookie Tyler Colvin in the second inning. After that he was excellent and got out of a few jams with his guile. Lee got ground balls when he needed them and the Mariners turned 3 double plays on the night. Lee struck out 9 and didn’t walk any batters.

He got the complete game win and now leads the American League in ERA (2.39), complete games (4) and WHIP (0.91). See you again at the All-Star Game, Cliff! Cliff Lee has The Stat Line of the Night for 6/23/10.
