The Stat Line of the Night — 7/11/10 — Carlos Quentin
Less than one week from securing a Stat Line of the Night, Carlos Quentin has done it again, this time propelling his red hot Chicago White Sox into first place in the AL Central. The White Sox had a terrible start to the season and had some people calling for the heads of front office personnel with the team. Boy has that turned around, and Carlos Quentin is no small part of the change.
Quentin hit a grand slam and a solo home run in the White Sox 15-5 drubbing of the Kansas City Royals. Quentin was 2-4 on the night with the 5 RBIs. Although his batting average is a paltry .244, he has now hit 19 home runs and is one of the league leaders in that category. He had some help from teammates Alex Rios, rookie Dayan Viciedo, and Andruw Jones. Jones hit his 400th career home run in the effort.
The White Sox are now in first place in the AL Central and many people can hardly believe it. They may be the hottest team going into the All-Star break in all of baseball. With the second half of the season well under way, the Sox are looking to October with high hopes for a deep playoff run. Although they lost pitching ace Jake Peavy, performances like those given yesterday by Carlos Quentin will help them get there. For now, Quentin wins his second “Stat Line of the Night” in less than a week.
