The Stat Line of the Night – 8/5/10 – Mark Kotsay

mark kotsaySo the first thing you might be asking yourself after clicking on the title — “Mark Kotsay is still in the league?” He sure is. And Ozzie Guillen loves to give him a lot of playing time for the White Sox. Last night Kotsay made his manager look good, coming up big against division rival Tigers.

The Sox led 2-1 going into the top of the 9th. Kotsay came to the plate to face Robbie Weinhardt and promptly jacked a homer with a man on to give the Sox a 4-1 lead. That was super important, as Sox closer Bobby Jenks blew the 3-run lead in the bottom of the inning and the Tigers tied it up at 4-4.

In the top of the 11th, Kotsay faced Tigers closer Jose Valverde with men on base. He smoked one into the gap between right and center fields and cleared the bases. It gave the Sox a 6-4 lead and that’s how it would end.

Kotsay ended up 3-5 with a run scored and 4 RBIs. His big performance allowed the Sox to maintain their lead in the AL Central. Mark Kotsay has The Stat Line of the Night for 8/5/10.
