The Stat Line of the Night – 8/11/10 – Adam Wainwright

adam wainwrightThe St. Louis Cardinals had the brooms ready in anticipation of a sweep of the Reds in Cincy. The way Adam Wainwright was pitching, the Cardinal hitters could have used them as bats and still won the ballgame. Wainwright was brilliant as usual in shutting down the upstart Reds and the Cards completed the three-game sweep with a 6-1 win. They now sit in sole possession of first place in the NL Central.

Wainwright allowed only 2 hits in 7 innings of work, struck out 4 and didn’t walk anyone. The Reds were mystified by his old school, Maddux-like performance. He improved to 17-6 with the win and lowered his ERA to 1.99. Remember when Ubaldo Jimenez was the runaway Cy Young winner? Not so fast. If Wainwright keeps dealing and the Cards make the postseason, Wainwright will have some new hardware in November.

The series sweep had to feel awesome after the pregame brawl the other day. For Wainwright, it was business as usual. He has The Stat Line of the Night for 8/11/11.
