The Stat Line of the Night – 8/19/10 – Paul Konerko

paul konerkoJust when Joe Mauer and the Twins were beating up on the White Sox and extending their AL Central lead to 5 games, the White Sox decided to break out their big sticks and take it to the Twins — big time.

Leading the White Sox hit attack was Paul Konerko. Konerko had five hits — his 31st home run, a double and three singles. He drove in four runs and scored 3 times. The Sox had 21 hits overall, absolutely abusing Twins starter Carl Pavano, who allowed 15 hits and 7 runs over 6 innings.

The Sox managed to salvage a game in the series and reduced the Twins lead to 4 games. The division race continues as the Sox get to play Kansas City and the Twins play the Angels.

Konerko is probably the best player in the AL that doesn’t get the press he deserves. He is 2nd in the AL in homers, 3rd in OPS, 10th in batting average and 4th in slugging. He’s having a killer year and he has The Stat Line of the Night for 8/19/10.
