The Stat Line of the Night – 8/23/10 – Jose Bautista
What can the league leader in home runs do to help your team against the vaunted Yankees? How about secure all your RBIs and 2of your 3 runs in a 3 to 2 victory. That is what Jose Bautista did last night. The league leader in home runs with 40 hit 2 more last night to help lead the his Blue Jays to the win.
Bautista has had an incredible season and last night his two home runs gave him his 6th multi-hoe run game of the season. He was 2-3 on the night with the two bombs, 3 RBIs, 2 runs, and a walk. His first home run was a shot to deep center in the bottom of the third to give the Jays a 2-1 lead. Then in the bottom of the 8th with the game tied, Bautista hit a homer to left to score the go-ahead run. The two home runs put him atop the Major League home run leaderboard by 7 homers.
Bautista is having a career year, having never hit more than 16 home runs in a season. He may triple that 16 figure this year if he keeps swinging his bat well. The Blue Jays on the other hand, have had a decent year but even victories like this will probably not help them back into the playoff race. Bautista can be proud, however, as he wins the “Stat Line of the Night”.
